Hilton LIVE! in Review

Hilton Live Gig Report

Well folks, the inaugural ‘Hilton Live’ has been run and won!  The winners were the Club, The Hilton RSL, the bands and of course the people that came along. What a great night it was!

We began the bump in at about 2:30pm with Rob & Dave Curtis running the Live Sound Practical Workshop, then Rob Green arrived with the Van, and it was on.  The whole team was involved in unloading and then setting up the stage. We had a two-hour window before Soundchecks and we made it, just…

The bands arrived on time for their soundchecks and the 30mins allocated was ample time to get everyone sorted.

Doors opened about 7:00pm and despite direct competition from the Crows v Port Showdown, the people started arriving.  The venue layout was fortuitous, because the large dance floor enabled us to have six large tables so that most of the audience could be in the same room, and close to the stage. This created great warmth and the feeling of a crowd much larger than the sixty (ish) crowd. The vibe in the room was awesome.

Stonehenge kicked off proceedings right on time and ripped through a cracking set. There were punters on the dance floor from early on and everyone was having a great time.  Then they played the Nutbush, and as you can see in the photos, the dance floor was full.

After Stonehenge we drew the raffle and made a couple of people very happy with their wine & chocolates, before Dead Set took to the stage with a great set of classics.

All in all, it was a great night, and we are planning to make it a regular event for the club. Many thanks must go to Rod Bungey & Bill Parry plus the committee and members of the Hilton RSL. They are great people to work with!

Many thanks to the entire committee for their help and commitment to this event, and in particular to Steve Rees for his leadership, Kathy Giles with her undying commitment to the marketing, Rob Green & Tonia for running the door and their amazing raffle ticket selling skills and of course Rob & Dave Curtis for their incredible efforts running the workshop, the bump in and out, and importantly, for providing professional quality sound and lighting.

Thanks to Stonehenge and Dead Set for performing and finally, a huge thank you to all the club members, RSL members and the public that supported live music. We are forever grateful.

Until next time…

Pete
