Workshop – Stage Sound – 1st & 11th October 2025
The course will run over 2 sessions
The first session will be theory at the Hilton RSL 6:30pm to 8:30pm Wed 1st Oct
We will cover:
The Club’s Analog Mixing Desk
- Live Sound Setup
- Stage Setup
- Sound Check
- Live Mix
- We will have a brief look at a digital desk but the course will be mostly the analog.
The second session (practical) will be the set up for the Hilton Live Show 11th October 2025.
This will be a recap of the theory night and practical experience.
Candidates will be expected to attend the practical session up to the sound check and are welcome to stay for the gig and participate in the mix for the night but that is up to them.
Course material will be provided.

Topics covered include: Setup – mechanical issues, Safety
- Room sound, EQ, FOH volumes,
- Technical:
- Balance leads, Xlr v Jack , DIs, Input impedance
- Microphones: types for applications
- Audio setup:
- Desk Input gain
- Monitors ( fold backs)
- Foldback mix,
- Avoiding / fixing Feedback
- Effects, including:
- Equalization
- Compression
- Troubleshooting:
- Hums and buzzes
- Cable testing
- Communication with tech people.
These are the high level topics, the objective will be for everything to be a practical approach. We’ll focus 90% on the rig that we have, but we may talk about some extended topics.
